

NEW YORK, June 17, 2005 — Picturehouse has acquired all North American rights to the historical drama Mongol from CTB and Andreyevsky Flag, it was announced today by Bob Berney, President Picturehouse.
Directed by Sergei Bodrov (Prisoner of the Mountains, The Nomad), Mongol is the epic story of a young Genghis Khan and how events in his early life lead him to become the legendary conquer and father of Mongolia. Currently in pre-production, the film will star Tadanobu Asano (Zatoichi) as Genghis Khan and will be produced by Sergei Selyanov, Anton Melnik, and Bulat Galimgereyev. Bodrov penned the script with Arif Aliyev. Shooting is set to being in various Asian locations this summer.
“This is an extraordinary script,” said Berney. “With its wonderful mythic qualities and underlying love story, this is a film that will speak to many different audiences. We are proud to be involved so early on in this project and look forward to bringing this epic tale to the US.”
The deal was brokered on behalf of Picturehouse by Berney and New Line's Senior Vice President Carolyn Blackwood and on behalf of CTB and Andreyevsky Flag by Andreas Rothbauer of Beta Cinema. Beta Cinema also handling the world sales and will announce the first sales soon.
Picturehouse is a company that is the product of two leaders of the entertainment community – HBO and New Line Cinema. Launched in April 2005, upcoming releases include Gus Van Sant’s Last Days; Paul Reiser’s The Thing About My Folks starring Peter Falk; and Steven Shainberg’s Fur, which recently began production and stars Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr.
